Music had always been a passion of mine. I trained operatic in my youth, and then I discovered David Bowie and moved on to rock and roll. I work in a six piece award winning cover band, as well as a three piece female ensemble. I released an original cd in the 1990’s as “Raingirl” and I’m currently recording my first solo project which I am so excited about! I worked on various studio projects through out the years and have been fortunate enough to work in bands which spanned many genres. I periodically host a DJ event, because I get to bust out all of the music swirling in my head. I’ve been crafting a serious vinyl collection since the 70’s, & it’s great to bust it out from time to time!
I worked in visual design and merchandising for The Gap for ten years, and also as a window dresser for various boutiques. I owned an edgy boutique in the late 80’s as well, which got media attention for its unique fashion and visual concept. Fashion is not about labels for me. I enjoy a well made dress from a vintage shop, & a t-shirt from a street artist as much as that pair of fine made Italian shoes.
Holistic health and wellness have always been an important part of my life. I studied various modalities of wellness throughout the 1990’s. I became a Certified Shiatsu Practitioner in 2001 from Endless Mountains School of Shiatsu. Studies included the law of the five elements, Zen Shiatsu, an outline of Chinese acupuncture and medicine, and diagnosis and treatment. Educational Intensives and Workshops include: Traditional Chinese Medicine, Patent Medicine, Sooji (Korean hand therapy), Kampo (Japanese Medicine), and Medical Qi Gong with Acupuncturist Frank Yurasek, author of the “Sooji Handbook”. I studied an intensive in Pointing Therapy with Dr. Lin Chaoxiong, author of “Pointing Therapy”. I studied over four years and completed 250 case studies before I started practicing professionally. I also received my teaching certification in 2002. I am a Certified Master Reiki Practitioner. I became a Certified Fitness Trainer from W.I.T.S and also a Certified Pilates Coach, with instruction from Leslie Bender.
Cooking is a self taught ❤️. My parents were both amazing cooks and I honed my craft by developing a palette based on the food I was brought up on. I dove head first into exploring different cultural foods and in the interim, developed my own style of cooking. I’m all about layers of flavor, sustainability, and working with “what’s fresh”. I’m currently working on a cook book of some of my favorite recipes that have a healthy spin on them. I’ve been fortunate enough to work as a personal chef the last ten years, as well as hosting cooking classes that end up being a fun dinner party.
I love to write. I had daydreams of moving to Paris when I was a teenager, and living in a flat writing poetry. As you could imagine, that didn't come to fruition! 😂😂. I've continued writing through the years, and channel that energy through my music, in various poetry compilations, and hopefully through this vehicle that I'm so fortunate to be creating.
I am married to "My Curls”, Carissa...my best friend, my inspiration, my soulmate. The blog is made possible by her artistic talent. The blog design, photography, and graphics are all her handy work. Her encouragement and support is the reason this is happening. I am truly blessed. We have two pups that we love so very much..Miss Roxy Music & Mr.Elvis. It's a very, very, very fine house.
Thanks for reading and happy clicking.
Sincerely,
